Xavi Gorriz
I am Xabi Górriz, I am 41 years old and I am from Alsasua, a town in northern Navarra. Today, I am fully dedicated to scalp micropigmentation, but getting here has involved several very different stages in my life. I was a professional Basque pelota remonte athlete for five years, worked as an industrial maintenance electrician for another ten, and then spent more than nine years as a professional tattoo artist, specializing in black and grey realism.
In February 2024, I discovered scalp micropigmentation almost by chance, and I fell in love with the technique from the very beginning. Since then, I have dedicated all my time to it: I have been working in SMP 100% full-time for more than two years, have treated more than 250 clients, and work daily in the studio.
Where My Technique Comes From
My foundation comes from tattooing. More than nine years of working in black and grey realism trained my eye for light and shadow, contrast, texture, and control of pigment layers. And all of that is exactly what you need to create high-quality scalp micropigmentation. That is why I don't consider myself a technician who learned SMP; I consider myself a tattoo artist who transitioned into scalp micropigmentation. That artistic perspective is what makes the difference in my work.
I also experienced hair loss firsthand for almost a decade. That personal experience is also part of the way I work: I understand what the client is looking for because I spent years looking for the same thing myself.
Competition and Recognition
I started competing in the New Generation 2024 championship, which I won. From there, everything continued to grow. I have participated in several competitions within the industry and have received an award in every one of them. I am invited to give presentations, perform live demonstrations, and serve as a judge at professional competitions. But above all, what I truly love is competing. It is where I learn the most, enjoy myself the most, and push myself the hardest.
Training
Alongside my work in the studio, I also provide in-person training. I have already trained numerous professionals in the industry, including both beginners and experienced professionals who have been in the field longer than I have and specifically come to learn my approach to the work. Training others is one of the most fulfilling parts of what I do.
